Considering the large number of films we screen each year, this year more than 140, we wanted to release some of the titles early so that our audiences could get an overview of the diversity of films we are highlighting.  We chose 10 very different films, representative of each of our main feature film sections, to share. From big budget fare to American independent films, films with local connections and even classics being screened the way they were when first released, this year’s RiverRun will once again have a little something for everyone.” From Special Screenings: SCORE Director: Matt Schrader USA / 2016 / ENGLISH / 94 MIN. Call for Student Ambassadors

RiverRun is looking for social media-savvy students to be our Festival Ambassadors. This select group of students will promote the different aspects of the festival in the weeks leading up to RiverRun’s 2017 Festival (March 30 – April 9, 2017). Our goal is to increase awareness and involvement in this entertaining and enlightening cultural event to a younger generation of film-lovers in the local community.Plea   Ambassadors will promote Festival events to their friends and followers through the use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and blogging – we request at least three (3) or more mentions on these sites per week leading up to and during the Festival. Other responsibilities may include sharing about the Festival with your campus and social organizations, giving feedback about events and poster distribution. Please note that this does not qualify as an internship. Who we’re looking for: Socially-connected collegiate film enthusiasts from all over the Triad. RiverRun Retro: Barbara Stanwyck Film & Book Signing 2/2/17

RIVERRUN RETRO PRESENTS: STANWYCK: STEEL TRUE 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 2, 2017 Hanesbrands Theatre 209 N. Spruce St. Winston-Salem, NC 27101 RiverRun International Film Festival’s RiverRun Retro presents a film screening of Stella Dallas, starring Barbara Stanwyck, and a discussion with Stanwyck’s biographer, Victoria Wilson, followed by a book signing of her biography, A Life of Barbara Stanwyck Steel – True: 1907 – 1940. The event will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 7:00 p.m., at Hanesbrands Theatre, located at 209 W. Spruce Street, Winston-Salem. The 1937 version of Stella Dallas is the second of three screen versions of the story based on a novel by Olive Higgins Prouty. Stanwyck received her first Academy Award for Best Actress for playing the title role. At the time of its release, Variety magazine called it “A tear-jerker of ‘A’ ranking.” Stanwyck received numerous accolades for her performance, including from the New York Times, whose reviewer noted, “Miss Stanwyck’s portrayal is as courageous as it is fine.” Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the conversation with Victoria Wilson will begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by the screening of Stella Dallas. Bookmarks will have copies of Wilson’s book available for purchase prior to the event and during the reception and book signing following the screening.
