Fits and Starts
Struggling writer and lit professor David, hilariously brought to life by the unmistakable dry wit of Wyatt Cenac (The Daily Show, Medicine for Melancholy), can’t seem to escape the sudden literary success of his wife Jennifer (Greta Lee). Though her fame gives David access to the crème de la crème of the publishing world, his own rigid principles and subdued personality present roadblocks to engaging with a fickle world that seems absurdly random and superficial to him. When Jennifer finally convinces him to take a road trip to read a sample of his work at a high-profile publisher’s salon, the trip naturally takes an unexpected turn, and he has to face his own creative shortcomings in order to find a way to regain control of his life and work. The film features a host of comical cameos, including appearances by Louis Cancelmi (Boardwalk Empire), Alex Karpovsky (HBO’s Girls) and NC native Onur Tukel.
