Beitar Jerusalem FC is the most popular and controversial football team in Israel: it is the only club in the Premier League never to sign an Arab player. This visceral documentary turns the lens on this famed club and illustrates how racism is destroying a team and society from within. In January 2013, a secretive transfer deal masterminded by the disliked Russian team owner Arcadi Gaydamak transported two young Muslim players from Chechnya deep into the heart of Israel to the Jewish-oriented football club. This deal ended up giving rise to the most racist campaign in Israeli sport.
Director Maya Zinshtein is granted amazing access to the club and puts her investigative journalism background to work in creating a vivid portrait of these men and the struggles they face. She truly puts it all on the line as she follows the team and the two newcomers for a season, capturing a football team and city in crisis as power, money and politics fuel a club spiraling out of control.
