RiverRun’s 2024 Master of Cinema recipient, Kate Amend, joins fellow filmmaker Peter Gilbert to discuss her illustrious career as a documentary film editor. Kate Amend is the editor of the Academy Award-winning documentary features “The Long Way Home” (1998) and “Into the Arms of Strangers: Stories of the Kindertransport” (2001). Amend also edited the 2001 Oscar-nominated documentary short “On Tiptoe: Gentle Steps to Freedom” and the Peabody Award-winner “Beah: A Black Woman Speaks.” Amend is on the Board of Directors of the American Cinema Editors and is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. In 2023, she received the illustrious Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Cinema Editors Eddie Awards.

 

Peter Gilbert is a documentary filmmaker and was the cinematographer and one of the producers of “Hoop Dreams,” an acclaimed 1994 film about two teenage basketball players in Chicago.
