In 1960, the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad drafted Major Ze’ev Gur Arie to penetrate the circle of German scientists developing weapons of mass destruction in Egypt. German born, blond-haired and blue-eyed Gur Arie was the ideal candidate to travel to Cairo, disguised as ex-Nazi millionaire and horse breeder Wolfgang Lotz. While gathering information in Egypt, however, Arie’s devotion to his wife and son back home faded as he succumbed to his covert identity, living the high life and marrying a German woman after a passionate whirlwind romance. After a sudden arrest, a sensational trial and some jail time, Arie was allowed to return to Israel. With the taste of the glamorous life still fresh on his mind, though, he struggled to re-assume his true identity, ultimately abandoning both his family and his homeland altogether.
