In the tradition of films such as Born Free and March of the Penguins, this amazing nature movie follows a gentle bear expert who raises orphaned grizzly cubs in the verdant valleys of far eastern Russia. From his cabin in a coastal nature preserve, the Canadian Charlie Russell has been helping grizzlies grow up for the last ten summers–and this year, he’s got a record four “kids” to foster. During daily adventures into the wilderness, the young grizzlies tumble down hillsides, swipe at salmon, and frolic in green fields. Meanwhile, Charlie wards off the local adult bear-bullies with little more than a stern glance–while trying to keep the cubs protected from the sinister advances of human hunters. While the film offers a delightful view of bear antics, it also reveals the unique trust and tolerance possible between bear and man.
