After the son of engineer Bill Markham (Powers Boothe) is abducted by an aboriginal tribe on the edge of the Amazon rain forest, the engineer spends the next ten years searching for him in this under-seen gem from British master John Boorman (Deliverance). Promoted as being “based on a true story,” this 1985 Cannes Film Festival selection generated controversy on the legitimacy of its claim. The film was released with an air of mystery surrounding its genuine origin.
Nominated for BAFTA awards in the cinematography, make-up and score categories, Boorman gives us an emotionally gripping and visually stunning masterpiece. The rainforest truly comes alive on the big screen and washes over you with this vibrant 70mm exhibition print.
