Synopsis

Dorothy Arzner was an American film director whose career in feature films spanned from the silent era of the late 1920s into the early 1940s. In fact, she was the only female director working in the 1930s in the United States and she was one of very few women who established a name for herself as a director in the American film industry during this time.  Her 20th (and final) film First Comes Courage is based on the 1943 novel Commandos by Elliott Arnold and stars Merle Oberon and Brian Aherne. Nicole Larsen is detested by her countrymen because they suspect she is collaborating with the occupying Germans. In reality she is working for the Norwegian underground, risking her life passing secrets to the resistance fighters.  35mm print courtesy of Sony Pictures
