Synopsis

Generation Wealth is an investigative documentary researching the pathologies that have created the richest society the world has ever seen, captured by the lens of acclaimed photographer and director Lauren Greenfield (The Queen of Versailles). More than just a documentary, Generation Wealth is a multi-platform project that Greenfield has been working on since 2008 and has been a museum exhibition and photographic monograph as well. But, it is within the documentary medium where Greenfield is able to truly explore the psychological aspect of the subject and where this story takes a revelatory path, bearing witness to the global boom-and-bust economy and documenting its complicated consequences.

Through riveting first-person interviews Greenfield’s journey takes us across America and around the world, documenting how we export the values of materialism, celebrity culture and social status to every corner of the globe. However, what is truly remarkable in this film is when it veers more into a reflective examination about how obsession can take over, and often overwhelm, our lives, even for the filmmaker herself.
