Still a teenager when shooting began on the film, director Xavier Dolan proved to be visionary beyond his years, as the film won several awards at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and garnered high praise from critics. The semi-autobiographical tale of a gay teen’s often violently passive/aggressive relationship with his domineering mother, I Killed My Mother’s raw emotional power is all the more affecting when one discovers that first-time director Dolan also penned the screenplay and stars in the film’s leading role as well.
