The most influential movie mogul that you’ve never heard of, Alan Ladd, Jr., is known to friends and colleagues simply as Laddie. He is also the understated studio chief and Oscar-winning producer behind Star Wars, Alien, Blade Runner, Chariots of Fire, Police Academy, Braveheart, Thelma and Louise, Young Frankenstein, and countless more.

His daughter Amanda Ladd-Jones endeavors here to better understand her father, both the man she called dad and the visionary whose 50-year career encompasses 50 Academy Award wins and over 150 nominations. By chronicling his journey as a producer and eventual 20th Century Fox chairman with a poignant personal touch, she takes us along with her in her quest.
