Join RiverRun in a conversation with our second Master of Cinema for 2018, the esteemed Academy Award winning film editor and director Chuck Workman, whose career has spanned six decades. We will be screening What Is Cinema?, one of Workman’s newest documentary films that, through the use of hundreds of film clips, allows dozens of filmmakers to voice their opinions on the titular question while primarily looking beyond the Hollywood mainstream to independent, experimental, documentary and avant-garde films. The film will be preceded by Workman’s Academy Award-winning short film from 1986 Precious Images. Comprised of approximately 470 half-second-long splices of movie moments through the history of American film, the film pushes the audience into a kind of trance and takes them on a journey into their individual memories of great films of the 20th century. 35mm print of Precious Images courtesy of UNCSA Moving Image Archives
