This brilliant French parody of the spy genre, set in 1955 Egypt, introduces audiences to spy OSS 117, aka Hubert Bonisseur de la Bath. Sent to Cairo to investigate the death of a colleague, Hubert takes over as head of a poultry company and begins to scout for answers. Also tasked with making sure all is well with the Suez Canal, keeping an eye on the British and Soviets, putting down a fundamentalist rebellion and making peace in the Middle East, Hubert claims to be equal to the task. But along the way it quickly becomes clear (to us at least) that Hubert is a complete idiot who can’t help but misinterpret the clues and alienate the people around him at every step.
