Dan (James Roday) is a struggling writer working at a San Francisco nightclub. Dan has also been HIV positive for more than twenty years. When the simple act of depositing a $100 birthday check causes the State of California to suspend his medical coverage, he suddenly needs close to $3000 a month to get the drugs that he needs. But maintaining the status quo when it comes to his medication is not the only thing keeping Dan awake. He would love to find a man, but how do you start dating when the conversation will inevitably turn to AIDS? Throw in Dan’s cantankerous boss Bob (Danny Glover), a senior adjusting to single life after his wife of fifty-five years has thrown him out, and his best friend Paula (Robin Weigert), who appears to be starting a serious relationship with a stuffed animal, and there are plenty of relationship problems to go around.
