Synopsis
At the height of the Cold War, U.S. President Jordan Lyman manages to get a nuclear disarmament treaty with the Soviet Union through the Senate; however, his opposition and some members of the military oppose this action. A Pentagon insider and USMC Colonel discovers evidence that the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, himself certain to be a presidential candidate in two years, is plotting a coup where the military will seize control of the country in seven days. The Colonel takes this information to the President and web of political intrigue unfolds. The film is set in 1974, ten years into the future at the time of its release, and the cast includes Burt Lancaster, Kirk Douglas, Ava Gardner, and Fredric March.
