Sofia, 20, lives with her parents in Casablanca. Suffering from pregnancy denial, she finds herself breaking the law by giving birth to a baby out of wedlock. The hospital gives her 24 hours to provide them with the identification of the father before informing the authorities, sending Sofia on a gripping emotional journey against the backdrop of modern-day Morocco, where pre-marital sex is a criminal offense. Director Meryem Benm’Barek’s debut feature earned her a trip to last year’s Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize for Best Screenplay in the Un Certain Regard category.
