join riverrun for a retro screening of the 1933 classic king kong - oct 21

RiverRun is excited to announce a Retro Screening on Oct 21 for the 1933 classic KING KONG. Don’t miss out celebrating the 90th anniversary for this influential film with a special introduction by Woodrow “Woody” Hood, Director of Film Studies at Wake Forest University.

King Kong is an American pre-Code adventure horror monster film directed and produced by Merian C. Cooper and Ernest B. Schoedsack, with special effects by Willis H. O’Brien. Produced and distributed by RKO Radio Pictures, it is the first film in the King Kong franchise. The film stars Fay Wray, Robert Armstrong and Bruce Cabot. In the film, a giant ape dubbed Kong, captured from Skull Island, attempts to possess a beautiful young woman.  Producer Merian C. Cooper pitched the role to Fay Wray saying she would have the “tallest, darkest leading man in Hollywood.”  She envisioned Cary Grant, but her leading man turned out to be a 40 foot tall beast named Kong.
