The leaves are turning, the Dixie Classic Fair is in full swing, and school buses are once again filling the streets of Winston-Salem.  Sure signs of autumn all, but it also means that RiverRun is only half a year away! And, if you happen to be wondering how to stay involved with RiverRun in the fall and winter months, here’s great news.  This year RiverRun is once again a participating organization with ITVS’ Community Cinema series, which brings exclusive FREE screenings of powerful and insightful documentary films to Winston-Salem before they have their broadcast premieres on PBS’ Independent Lens series.

We’re starting the series off with a flurry of free screenings in October, the first of which is next Monday, October 13th at Salem College’s brand-spanking-new Huber Theatre!  This month’s film is actually a multi-part work featuring three different installments of MAKERS, a series focused on trailblazing women in America.  The first installment is called Women In Comedy, and features contemporary comics, including Chelsea Handler, Mo’Nique, Sarah Silverman, Ellen DeGeneres, Jane Lynch and Kathy Griffin, discussing where women started in this competitive, male-dominated profession and where they are determined to go. Directions to Salem College’s Student Center, where the Huber Theatre is located, can be found here.
