Making Apes: The Artists Who Changed Film

Making Apes takes a look back at the makeup artists, led by Tom Burman and John Chambers, who were behind one of the most groundbreaking and beloved science fiction franchises of all time, Planet of the Apes. Following the screening, RiverRun will convene a panel with RiverRun 2020 Master of Cinema honorees Tom & Bari Burman, award winning make-up artists, along with director of the film William Conlin. The panel will be moderated by Bob Keen, Director of Visual Effects and Immersive Media, UNCSA School of Filmmaking.

The film stars Christian Slater as Adam, an shy and awkward busboy who saves waitress Caroline (Marisa Tomei) from being raped in a park late one night. The two begin to fall in love, and as their relationship progresses, Caroline discovers that Adam has a heart defect, though he claims he has a baboon heart. Rosie Perez also stars as Cindy, Caroline's sassy comic-relief-providing co-worker.
